Ciao Pavarotti

Even if information will be published everywhere, I can’t imagine running an audio blog without sharing my emotion about one of the best known vocal performer Luciano Pavarotti who dies this 6th september.

Here’s the song ‘Miss Sarajevo’ from ‘The Passengers’ (Brian Eno - Bono - Adam Clayton - The Edge - Craig Armstrong and Luciano Pavarotti - tenor voice on this song), released in 1995.

Dici che il fiume
Trova la via al mare
E come il fiume
Giungerai a me
Oltre i confini
E le terre assetate
Dici che come fiume
Come fiume…
L’amore giunger
L’amore…
E non so più pregare
E nell’amore non so più sperare
E quell’amore non so più aspettare

It’s said that a river
Finds the way to the sea
And like the river
You shall come to me
Beyond the borders
And the thirsty lands
You say that as a river
Like a river…
Love shall come
Love…
And I’m not able to pray anymore
And I cannot hope in love anymore
And I cannot wait for love anymore

I’m Not There

I don’t think I have been this excited for a soundtrack in a very long time. Quite possibly the best. soundtrack. ever.

Due out Oct. 30th. Movie in theaters November 21st.

Taken from ioncinema.com : Formerly going by the title of “I’m Not There: Suppositions on a Film Concerning Dylan”, this is a film about the life of Bob Dylan. The film follows seven characters, each embodying a different aspect of Dylan’s life story and music. It’s the first biographical feature project to secure the approval of the pop culture icon. The film is about the life of Bob Dylan’s early days as a struggling folksinger, the rise to the forefront of the early-’60s folk scene, the controversial switch to rock, the motorcycle accident and the subsequent retreat from public view, and the latter-day de-emphasis of recording and concentration on the concert series known as the Never Ending Tour. Sounes somehow has uncovered some new information in that oft-scanned showbiz legend, mostly about Dylan’s childhood and his jealously guarded family life. Some of it actually provides further insight into his songs, particularly those about his wife, Sara. Sounes also blows the lid off Dylan’s heretofore unknown 1986 marriage to one of his backup singers. Each story expresses an aspect of Dylan’s mercurial personality and each story is to be filmed differently, in a style appropriate to its theme: Woody (Franklin) - an 11-year-old black boy, always on the run; Robbie - a womanising performer, always on the road; Jude (Blanchett) - the young androgynous rock star; John/Jack (Bale) - a folk idol who reinvents himself as an evangelist; Billy (Gere) - the famous outlaw, miraculously alive but growing old.

Eisley

doors_miranda.jpg

These Texas natives first grabbed me when my best friend played me “Telescope Eyes” a couple years back…one of those infectious pop-rock songs we just loved to drive around a sing-a-long to. Saw them at the Double Door in Chicago a few years ago and I was quite impressed.

Eisley is composed of siblings Sherri, Stacy, Chauntelle and Weston Dupree and their cousin, Garron Dupree. Their new album “Combinations” was release last month.

I’m really liking their new song called “Invasion”

A Cork Tale Wake

Chris BathgateWith 3 albums self-released in the last two years, Ann Arbor 24-years-old Chris Bathgate is already a confirmed talent in the folk nebula.

If “Serpentine” intro song could remind me the alternate pop piano style of canadian Royal Wood or some Arcade Fire tempo, the following track (The Last Parade on Ann St) is a full invitation in Bathgate’s new craft which is a delicate balance oscillating between folk, rock and chamber pop, melting violons, pianos and even judicious trumpets. This last album contains also some thiner song as the closing one (”Coda”) simply but acoustically beautiful and so imprevisible. Unpredictable it might be the seducing part of Chris songwriting : from a track to another but also inside a piece itself. His intimate and intense voice that could be compared to Will Oldham or Damien Jurado - is another listening pleasure. ‘A Cork Tale Wake’ is a really mature and creative release.

A Cork Tale WakeHope the two following tracks will encourage you to discover ‘A Cork Tale Wake’. His previous releases ‘Throatsleep’ and ‘Silence is for Suckers’ both worth your attention.
