I was on my way to work last week and happened to catch the tail end of an interview with the actor Eduardo Verastegui and a local radio personality. Eduardo was talking about this upcoming movie called Bella. I knew the minute this interview was over it was a movie I wanted to see. He spoke about it so passionately, with conviction about the meaning behind this story, and how it changed him. Bella is inspired by a true story.
I made some time tonight to go see this beautiful film. The poster above calls it a “movie that goes beyond romance”. I have to admit I walked in thinking it was going to be a typical love story. I even went prepared to shed a few tears. It was a love story, but not a typical one. It truly depicted love in those around us. A brother, a mother, a stranger, a moment in time. It’s not often I go to the movies alone but this was one of those movies that being alone allowed me to really take in the story and message behind the movie.
There is no soundtrack to the movie, none that I was able to find, but the music was great. It ended with Rachel Yamagata’s Meet Me By The Water. I’ve uploaded below, which reminds me I need to write a post about her. Save that for another day. * I’ve added Cucurrucucu Paloma by Caetano Veloso, that was in the movie. I couldn’t find the Rosemary Clooney *(update found the RC version, took me for ever but it’s down below) version of Sway but here Sway by Michael Buble on Songza.

It’s rare that a movie like this comes along. It truly blew me away. The music was definitely a major factor. I instantly fell in love with the Joey Ryan, Light On song, played while they were walking to the beach. Right after watching the movie, I immediately searched for the song and with persistence and luck, I found it for free download! And completely legal! I’m so thrilled! A couple of people here have asked about the Switchfoot songs used in the movie. Jon Foreman’s “My Love Goes Free” from his album “Fall” has already been mentioned, but in case anyone is still looking I thought I’d mention the other one: it’s called “C’mon C’mon.” The song was included on a 3-song EP Switchfoot was giving away to people who pre-ordered the album “Oh! Gravity,” but the version in the movie was a different arrangement/mix and I don’t know where it came from.
does anyone know the song that the guy sings in Spanish, it is a softer one and some of the lyrics I caught were “no puedo salvarme”…it’s difficult to find! thanks BELLA ROCKS!!
Okay, Okay. It was a great movie. The ending snuck up on me and I had to think about it a while. Lately, I have had trouble sitting through movies. I sorta surf the internet or check the fridge etc.. This one easily kept my attention throughout the movie. I was fascinated by Nina. I will probably have to watch it again to appreciate some of the messages, however, I think I have the main idea. Great job on the movie and we need more heartfelt movies beautifully done.

I was walking in the video store when the cover caught my eye. Great movie, but I can’t seem to find Jon Secada’s version of
Cucurrucucu Paloma. At first I thought it was a different take of Caetano Veloso, maybe he had done another version, but thanks to dvd I paused when the song credit rolled up and was surprised to see Jon Secada’s name. By the way the Bella soundtrack site has nothing on music it just goes to the movie site.
Any help would be great…

HAven’t seen the movie, but my friend told me about it and mentioned Rachel Yamagata was on the soundtrack (which does not exist) Trini You have made me the biggest Rachel Yamagata Fan. Keep Streaming the music! You have got excellent taste.
Just saw the movie last night. It is a truly great film. Makes you think about what really matters in life. Too often I can identify with racing through life just to get by, and if/when we get there we just want to get a bit ahead. This movie makes me want to slow down and live. Deeply moving. Thank you to all the filmmakers.

O Wow MsT you just answered my question. I was going to come on here to say yes I loved all the music in the movie(especially Sway by Rosemary Clooney!) but what first caught my ear was listening to the trailer. The lyrics

SO why would they have a song like that on the trailer you say? Someone liked it,and my personal opinion is
it sounds like a song that is unfolding, as the synopsis of the movie is unfolding for the preview. And a bit retrospective, maybe shadowing that this is a thought-provoking film.
I think it sounds great because it’s a slower softer beat to the backround of their voices for the first 30 seconds. They actually play 3 different songs in the trailer and so the people who put this together definitely know how to set the tone with music, and makes me wonder is there a soundtrack out for all of Bella yet? Is it because it was a smaller budget film?
Oh my God! YOU ARE AWESOME! THANK YOU FOR POSTING THESE SONGS!!!!! The song that just took me away was Cucurrucucu Paloma. I didn’t even care that the movie ended so randomly. We all understood what happened next. So simple. So perfect. I watched the movie last night (cried, smiled, laughed). LOVED IT.

For a little more information on Joey Ryan who sings “Light On”
“Ryan Coincidentally, Stephan Altman at Mophonics was in the middle of composing the score for Bella and immediately had a scene in mind where my song would fit. The song was “Like You” (from the bathtub scene) and they asked me to add some lyrics in Spanish for it. So in the film the lyrics are “Yo se que no puede salvarme, I know I’m on my own, Yo se que no puede salvarme, I know I’m alone”. The Spanish means “I know you can’t save me”. This is Nina’s low point. She has yet to fully accept the help and friendship Jose is offering and feels completely alone and desperate there in the bathtub.”

My wife and I watched the movie today for the first time and enjoyed it a lot, we loved it. Movie has a lot of message and things to think about. I hope everyone enjoys it a lot just as we did. We found out about the movie because we went to a concert of Alejandro Sanz and he mentioned the movie, 2 of his songs were played in the movie. We purchased this film and watched it for the 2nd time this past weekend. It could be in my top 5 movies of all time. The acting is amazing, especially Tammy who played Nina. We were in tears several times watching this beautiful film!

this movie touched me. not just because of the beauty of it, the human spirit and interaction bewteen strangers, or even the music. my life is similar to the story line, without the great guy part anyway, and its very moveing. 4 years to the date, may 13th, its just me and my son and movies like this i enjoy.

I just finished watching this movie – FANTASTIC AND BEAUTIFUL! The emotion caught me from the opening…watching those shiny shoes dance a little salsa. While the very end was satisfying I felt there was too big of gap left untold. Still…I loved it and am now slowly searching for the songs to download, starting with Rachel Yamagata and the unmatched, Nina Simone.
Desperate to watch this film, the trailer made me fall in love with it instantly! Thanks for all the info about the music in the film, kind curious people:)
