C S Nielsen is from Denmark. C S Nielsen sounds like the late Johnny Cash. C S Stands for ”Country Stig” It’s pretty much all you need to know to be honest. His Debut album has been on constant play since i bought it Directly from Stig in the last couple of weeks. When a tv channel in Denmark had a Johnny cash tribute night they also included C S Nielsen on the same night because of the similarities. I don’t think he deliberately tries to sound like Johnny he just happens to do so.His songwriting is superb especially in the song rage which is available for a listen on this site. Enjoy

In a time of manufactured beauty, Jana Hunter stands out as a champion of homegrown Texas lo-fi. Her initial success has been, for the most part, due to her earlier releases with the hairy godfather of the “freak-folk” genre–Devendra Banhart. But she shouldn’t be confused, despite her associations, as being like Banhart–whose sound is a bit more free-wheeling. You know, the type of stuff you might want to dance to after kicking back a few over the weekend
Jana Hunters music, in polar contrast, is stripped down of many of the acoustical pony tricks and slowed to the point of a lamenting drawl. The barren and haunting feelings produced by the songs of her first full length album Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom, are further emphasized by her hesitant and meek approach to the songs themselves. This album was mostly recorded in a variety of fidelities–from cassette tapes to laptops. She simply recorded on whatever was handy when inspiration hit. Her second and more recent album titled There’s No Home, is recorded in a more professional setting and introduces a much more confident artist in terms of the songs and their presentation. However, I still have trouble deciding which style of hers I’m more keen to.
This all to say… I think she’s pretty spectacular. I hope you do too. Check her out.

This won’t be a long post. I’m going to let the music speak for itself. My roomie popped the Soulsavers “It’s Not How Far You Fall, It’s The Way You Land” disk on my desk a couple days ago, and I can’t stop listening to the track “Revival” featuring Mark Lanegan. This song grabbed me from the first note and its been in my head for days now. Will definitely be on my top tunes of 2007 list. The video is equally visually stunning as the song is beautiful.

Band of annuals (Formely the Annuals) hail from Utah, Salt lake city.
Alternative country meets sweet pop melodies. This album ‘Let me live’ which is available here was recorded with the help of Scott Wiley who has worked with Ryan Adams as well as Elliott Smith and you can certainly hear the former on this great album. Some real sad bastard stuff mixed in with some sweet melodies (Think Ryan Adams dueting with Gillian welch) fans of alt country will love this album. They have toured with magnolia electric company, Neko Case and Damien Jurado in the past which may give you a slight feeling for what they sound like but for me I hear a lot of Ryan Adams. Alternatively you can just listen to the two tracks i’ve provided and make your own mind up.
Peace.
